Anzac Week

Hello, Kia Ora, Talofa

This week we learned about ANZAC. We made poppies. We used a template from our teacher. We cut then out, punched a hole and put a split pin in the middle to make a poppy.

We also made an acrostic poem for ANZAC DAY. This type of poem is where you take each letter of the word and that is the start of the new sentence. We were able to make an awesome poem this way together.

We also used google draw to make an anzac picture. To do this we:

  • We made a new google draw
  • we searched for a sunset or sunrise for the background and inserted it in
  • we then went onto google search images and typed in “black and white soldier”
  • we did a partial screen shot (control, shift, windows) of one of the soldier pictures
  • we removed the background by using removebg.com
  • we then downloaded the new image
  • we put the new image onto our background
  • we moved the image around to make it fit

Here are the photos of our art on our classroom window.

Animations Week 8

Hello!

This week we have been learning how to make animations through Google Slides.

We used the story “No David” by David Shannon to recount and make an animation with.

We learned how to duplicate slides (control + D), We learned how to create new slides (control + M), we learned how to copy and paste (Control + c) (control + v)

To create an animation, we opened a slide. We inserted a picture of our choice. Then we duplicated this slide (control + D). Once the slide has been duplicated click on the image and move it slightly. Repeat the steps of duplicating the slide and moving the image slightly. Once you have moved the part of the story of your choice, create a new slide (control + M) and start again.

PUBLISH TO WEB

Once you have finished your slides you can push them to the web so it plays automatically.

To do this go to

  • file
  • automatically every second
  • select “start slideshow after as soon as the player loads”
  • select “restart the slideshow after the last slide
  • publish

After this, you will have a link that will play automatically.

Here are a few of the animated recounts we made this week.

Week 6

This week was exciting! We learned how to use google sheets to create art. Then we recorded our voices to remind ourselves how we did it.

She pressed windows + alt + R to record on our teacher’s computer. Our voices and her screen were recorded as we explained how to do the sheet art.

On google sheets, we have to highlight the whole page using the button beside the A and above the 1. Click on that and make sure it is all highlighted. Once it is highlighted click the paint can at the top, then go down to conditional formatting. From here click “add another rule,” format cells, “text is exactly” (choose a number/letter), formatting style, paint can again, click this, and choose a color. Then you are able to start designing your image on the sheet. You type the number/letter in and then press enter and the square should change color.

We are still working on them, so these links below are what we are working on.

Our teacher also showed us how to use Kami. It is an online program where we can write on PDF documents. This was very fun to learn.

Week 5 Update

Hello, Talufa, Kia Ora, Malo e lele

Over the last few weeks, Room 4 has been doing some many amazing things. We are super proud to share a range of our learning with you.

We have been learning how to screen shot! To partial screen shot on a chrome we use control + shift + windows key, then how to paste using control + v. We used finding parts in a blog to take the screenshots.

We have also been practicing our handwriting to make sure we can still write. This is good to know incase the internet goes down. We can still continue working.

We did some art where we coloured in a spray paint about me sheet. We did Kawa of Care with an about me sheet. We learned how to replace photos. On google slides you can replace a photo by right clicking and pressing replace photo.

We have started steps web this week.

We have been playing bingo.

We also made a video about respect. To be respectful you are to be nice, help others, treat others like family, and to be kind. Our PB4L values I am Safe, I am Respectful, I am a learner.

We showed our video at our Hub Assembly that week. Click here to view. (slide 7)

Thank you for reading.

Posting on Our Blogs

Today we began learning how to write a quality blog post. We are writing our posts about the Mini Market Day creations we have made to sell at the Market this Friday.

We used our New Post bookmark we made last week and then titled our post with a catchy title. Some of us used alliteration like “Cool Christmas Cards” and “Santa Slime Jars”. Alliteration is where you use the same sound at the start of the words. Have you spotted alliteration used on titles before?

Drafting out our post, we have to think carefully about the audience so we explain both what we did, how we did it and what we learnt.

Next week we will be inserting media and adding a question seeking feedback from our readers, along with doing our proof reading checks.

Our New Blog Profiles

A couple of weeks ago we started creating our Blog Profiles. This week we did our final checks on them before then logging in to our individual Edublogs and uploading them.

We checked that our blog profiles included:

  • a ‘professional’ photo
  • information about who we are (our name, Year level, class and/or school)
  • information about what we like to do and/or learn about

We also checked that they were visually appealing and easy to read – that the colours worked well, the images and backgrounds didn’t overpower our photo and information.

We uploaded them onto our blog as a new post and our teacher insert it into the widget section so it also sits to the right hand side permanently.

If you would like to view them, click on our names on the slide below.

We’d appreciate hearing your feedback on the information we included and how visually appealing and easy to read they are.

Smart Passwords and Passphrases

We found out that a smart password or passphrase should ideally be:

  • 8 characters long
  • have capital and lowercase letters
  • include symbols and numbers
  • NOT be a word that can be found in the dictionary

We used some tips from a couple of videos we watched and had a go making our own. We liked the idea of using a phrase or song lyric that is memorable to us, then using the initial letters from it before then adding in symbols and numbers.  Or two unrelated things we like that we can then use in a similar way (e.g. kowhai + chocolate = chocowhai).

As passwords and passphrases need to be kept private we will not be sharing these with you today 🙂

Using and Creating Images

Today we learnt about Copyright. Copyright involves using peoples creations correctly. We can use explore to find images that are ok for us to use. If we do use an image we keep the URL link to the site the image came from. If you just use Google Search they may not have given permission and you could be stealing the image.

We created our own images using remove bg. This removes the background of a photo you have taken. Go to remove.bg and then upload your photo. It will remove the background. Download the photo to use it.

We then used the explore tool in Google Slides to look for background images to use and then uploaded our remove bg image to pop ourselves in interesting places.

Kaio, Sebastian, Amelia, Waimatoa and Juliet have shared their creations below:
